Given that this is our first year growing we expect to face challenges with pests, climate, and everything in-between, but that isn't deterring us. Our flock of chickens and ducks are consistently laying fresh eggs, so we'll always have something to sell.
To be ready for the first markets there is lots of work ahead including designing our stand, signs, business cards, building our website and online store, and that's all while building fences to protect against deer, planning, sowing, planting, tending, and harvesting crops.
Last weekend we started research at the certified farmers market in Sacramento. We learned a lot about available produce, display methods, pricing structures, and crucially which stands seemed to have a steady flow of customers.
The Market Garden page is now updated with a list of crops were planning to grow this year, many of them have already been started indoors.
The design of our first simple marketstand table is really progressing. We designed the branding, website, and store ourselves. For our first year we're starting as local and small as we can.
Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you soon as customers!
We will be posting regular updates on our progress before market season and upcoming available produce each market week: subscribe to keep updated.
